About me

Sport has always been part of my life, and in my formative years at school where we didn’t have the science or understanding we have today, it nonetheless equipped me with life long skills that have stayed with me forever. Anything with a ball peaked my interest, from cricket to squash, to tennis to hockey but football was always my number 1. Team work, dealing with highs and lows, pushing harder to get to the next level, learning new skills, meeting new people and having to adapt are just some of the many experiences that help us to be the best that we can in our future self.

As working life took over, and I became lucky enough to have 2 great kids who also love their sport, I found myself on the sidelines on match days and training days watching the coaches. I found myself becoming increasingly frustrated with the general lack of engagement, planning, fun … it just felt very lack lustre.

One day, I asked the senior coach what was going on, and he literally yelled at me “Have you done your Level 1? Do you know about team philosophy?”

And that was it.

I could instantly see that there is a better way. A way that creates great experiences for our young players, and enjoyment for parents.

So, I took my son out of that club, joined another, and started my coaching journey. In grass roots football. I set out with a vision, established some core principles around culture, got hold of some kit, and set about getting my first team together.

Several years later, I am passionate about helping coaches achieve success not just through the training sessions, but also through some of the harder to reach and sometimes non tangible elements of being a coach.

I’m not entirely sure where Footy for kids will go, but footy for kids will aim to share experiences, share some training plans, best practice approaches and insight from other coaches that share their experiences.
